The Technicentre at Saint Pierre des Corps handles maintenance and engineering on SNCF equipment and works on the maintenance of the Transilien and TER.The centre's current activity focuses mainly on the renovation and maintenance of TRANSILIEN self-propelled trains and therefore on painting them.
In 2009, the Technicentre invested in a completely new clean technology system in line with European Directives on the reduction of VOC waste (Volatile Organic Compounds) and selected KREMLIN REXSON as its supplier.
The stakes were high. It was necessary to design a modern automated system to obviate the manual mixing of components and the associated waste.
Mr Dominique Chesneau tells us about it: "
The overall project, owing to its scale and what was at stake, meant that we had to find a supplier with whom we could establish a partnership, who would assist us throughout our project. The contact we had with KREMLIN REXSON was excellent and enabled us to approach the project enthusiastically."
The new system includes: ► Premises equipped with 10 holding tanks, containing the colours, curing agents and glazes, and the transfer pumps used to decant the 200-litre barrels into the tanks.
► Premises used to stock 2 barrels of solvent with their pumps in holding and the pumps for water purified by reverse osmosis (paint mixture) and mains water (rinsing).
► Premises for the installation of CYCLOMIX
TM Expert dosing plates for multi-component products. Product mixing and rinsing are automatic.
The paints are mixed on the mixing plate and rinsing is restricted to this plate and the gun. Changing the colour is considerably facilitated.
► 1 spray booth with 4
AIRMIX® guns (2 guns for the 2K and 2 guns for the 3K).
After several weeks, the results are very satisfactory on the following points:
Health and safety: reduction of product handling, simplification of rinsing in a closed circuit and enhanced cleanliness.
Cost control: reduction of paint consumption, optimisation of packaging in 200-litre barrels, lower storage costs. Thanks to this cost control, return on the investment will be achieved after 4 years.
Productivity: precise, automatic paint dosing and mixing, less rinsing time, automated colour changes.
Environment: reduction of paint waste (solid and liquid), reduction of rinsing waste of around 80%, reduction of the quantity of soiled packaging, high quality paintwork and healthier ambient air.
A strong point that should be stressed: the quality of the services and support provided by KREMLIN REXSON and its team both in terms of personnel training and commissioning of the system.
